New Nebraska dorms to offer privacy, amenities

ÿ The new housing that will open in Nebraska Hall seems like a dream come true. It will feature suites with single bedrooms and all sorts of amenities that regular rooms don't have - incluing double beds and breakfast bars. It should be a nice transition between traditional dorms and living on your own.

Suites in Nebraska will be available for room draw next year. A room in Nebraska will cost the same as a single room on campus so that the new housing is not limited to economically advantaged students.

Nebraska Hall is designed as a measure to eliminate triples. With upperclassmen moved to Nebraska, there will be more rooms on campus open for freshmen, relieving the housing crunch for the future freshmen.

It's a refreshing change that half of the current student body will have the chance to see the improvements, unlike the new SIS building, which isn't scheduled for completion until after most of us graduate. Members of the Classes of 2008 and 2009 will be among the first to live in the new Nebraska Hall.

The best part about the new Nebraska suites? They're co-ed. Now the walk of shame can be contained in the safety of your very own suite. In reality, it won't be much different than current on-campus housing, because the individual bedrooms will still be single sex, but any possibility for more mixing of genders seems great to the more hormonal among us.
