Hallinan, Wharton qualify for NCAA regionals

Sophomore Steven Hallinan qualified for the NCAA regionals by running a personal best in the 1,500-meter run at the Duke Invitational Friday

Hallinan's time of 3 minutes 47.00 seconds was good for second place in the race and less than a second shy of the winning time.

Junior Brendan Fennell made the 1,500 AU men's best event of the weekend, finishing sixth despite falling midway through the race.

Senior Zaia Wharton led the women's team, qualifying for the regionals in the 800 by setting a school-record time of 2:09.79. She finished fifth in the race.

Part of the team also competed at the Delaware Invitational, where Mary Maloney, Catherine Ford and Meghan Mason finished 1-2-3 in the 3,000.

Tony Taylor (400) and Yohannes Awit (1,500) also won races for the Eagles

Women's tennis outmatched by Lehigh

Freshman Malvina DeLaCanal won her seventh match in a row, but it was the only point the AU women's tennis team earned in a 6-1 loss at Lehigh Saturday.

AU's No. 2 player beat Arieala Cohen in two sets, 6-2, 6-2.

The Eagles did not win any other singles sets, but took one doubles match as DeLaCanal and senior Julia Colarusso teamed for an 8-2 victory.
