ÿ American University lost a caring person and a smiling face Saturday when Ramona Narine passed away. The AU junior was very active on campus and left her mark on many lives.
Narine died when the vehicle she was driving collided with another on a rain-slicked road Saturday. According to Class of 2007 president Mark Stern, Narine is only member of the class who has passed away.
Originally from Silver Spring, Md., Narine was a member of the AEPhi sorority, a former member of the AU dance team and worked in the Office of Campus Life and at the Cheesecake Factory.
Faith Leonard, dean of students in the Campus Life, remembered Narine as a good worker who never complained.
AU junior Josh White, who knew Narine for 15 years and visited AU's campus with her while the two were still in high school, remembered her as a person who valued honesty and who taught him a lot about how to treat others.
Our school has lost three students this year, and no loss is easier or less jarring. We all have our cliques, but it is in times like these that we realize how much of a community we really are. The friendships made in college will last a lifetime and even if a friend is taken before their time, their memory will live on within
us.
One of Narine's favorite quotes was, "the best is with the best." That is what we will cling to, and what we hope her many friends will hold to as well.
