Politicians use Facebook, Myspace to get the vote out to college students

Several political candidates, most notably AU professor-turned- Senatorial candidate Allan Lichtman, have been using non-traditional online methods like Myspace and Facebook to reach college students.

Some sites, like Lichtman's Myspace page, are created by the candidates' staff members. Other sites, like some Members' of Congress Facebook pages, are made by devoted fans.

Regardless of who made the page, it's suprising that no one has used this form of advertising before. It's door-to-door advertising for college students without the hassel of actually going to the door.

The pages don't just benefit the candidates. They're a great way for students to share political ideas and opinions. Also, particularly important here at America's most politically active campus, the pages allow students an additional way to identify themselves politically.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
