Madrid fashion show bans too-skinny catwalkers

A top-level Madrid fashion show became the first show to ban overly skinny models from sauntering down the catwalk, according to CNN.com.

Fashion show directors said the models serve as role models for young girls, who turn to eating disorders and other unhealthy behavior as they try to mimic the model's thin look, CNN.com reported.

"Fashion is a mirror and many teenagers imitate what they see on the catwalk," Concha Guerra, a regional Spanish official, told CNN.

CNN.com reported that the fashion show used the Body-Mass Index, or BMI, to qualify participants. Thirty percent of women who participated in the previous Madrid fashion show have been disqualified based upon their weight, according to the report.

Scientists discover new bird species in India

Scientists have confirmed the discovery of a new multi-colored bird in northeast India called the Bugun Liocichla, according to the Associated Press.

This is the first time in over 50 years that a new bird has been found in India, the AP reported. While the bird was first seen in May 2005, it was only recently confirmed as a new species.

Ramana Athreya, a member of Mumbai's Natural History Society, told the AP the bird has a black cap with yellow patches around the eye and has yellow, red, black and white patches around the wing.
