Lady Eagles soccer blanked by Princeton

In just their second home loss this season, the AU women's soccer team was shutout by Princeton 3-0 at Reeves Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles were in a hole early as the Tigers went net on AU goalie Alison Doyle twice in the first seven minutes. Princeton's Diana Matheson scored on an assist by Jen Om a little over a minute into the first half. Om added another goal five minutes later with a shot into the upper right corner of the net. AU managed only eight shots in the first period with one on goal.

The Eagles didn't fare much better in the second, managing only five shots and failing to score. Sophomore Katelynn Donovan attempted to score off an assist by freshman Kelsey Brasher, but missed on a wide shot. Senior Jana Lee also blew a scoring opportunity with another shot that went wide.

With just under 15 minutes to play, Princeton closed the door on AU when Matheson scored off a Vic Anagnostopoulos assist.

The match-up marks the Eagles' sixth loss of the season and the fourth time they've been shut out. It was also the end of their non-conference schedule, as they will face Patriot League teams in their final three regular season games of the year.

AU hosts two teams this weekend when they face Lafayette on Friday at 3 p.m. and Lehigh on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
