Slide continues into Patriot League play for men's soccer

Winless in their previous four matches, the AU men's soccer team continued their downslide on Saturday with a 4-0 loss at Lehigh.

The game remained scoreless through the 17th minute, when Lehigh's Kyle Evans scored off an assist from Robert Quinlan to put the Mountain Hawks up 1-0. Evans would then assist Jim Taranto seven minutes later to make the score 2-0.

American made four shots in the first half with three on goal, but were denied each time by Lehigh goalie Jim Morahan. Eagle goalie Chris Sedlak made three saves in the first half.

The Eagles saw much of the same in the second half, taking four shots on goal but failing to score. The Mountain Hawks netted two of three shots on goal, with Sedlak making one save. The first score came in the 45th minute by Patrick Starsinic off an assist by Taranto. Jesse Schram scored five minutes later off a left side assist by Evans.

The loss marks the fourth time the Eagles have been shut out all season, with the previous three coming from Princeton on September 8, and two consecutive matches in the New Mexico Youth Association Classic in Albuquerque last weekend.

The Eagles are now 0-1 in Patriot League play. They look for their first league win as they host Holy Cross on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Reeves Field.
