The International Development Program, run through the School of International Service, started the Aramark Partnership Program last week. The program pairs students, staff and faculty with an Aramark employee. Many Aramark employees are from El Salvador (accoording to a Today@AU posting) and one of the main goals of the program is to help employees with their English skills. The program also aims to help AU participants with their Spanish skills, creating a dual benefit.
The new program will hopefully help to offset how rude some AU students are to Aramark workers. Everyone has seen it, but some of the stories Aramark employees tell are horrifying. Not flushing the toilet, breaking ceiling tiles and peeing on the floor is childish and rude. If these students pulled stunts like that at home, they would have to clean it up themselves.
This new program is not just a reminder to be nice to Aramark employees and a chance to improve our collective Spanish skills. It's an important way to connect with people who share our space every day.
