American's loss to Navy puts the Eagles down 0-1 in PL play.

Women's soccer falls to No. 25 Navy, 2-0

The AU women's soccer team fell to No. 25 Navy on Saturday, losing 2-0 in their first Patriot League match of the season.

The Eagles were able to hold the Midshipmen to a scoreless tie for the first 30 minutes of play. Navy's Sam Schroth assisted a CiAnna Weikle header in the 32nd minute to put the Midshipmen up 1-0. American failed to regain the tie, taking only one shot on goal in the first half.

American had a chance to come back in the second half, taking four shots on goal, but failing to score on Navy goalkeeper Lizzie Barnes. AU goalie Alison Doyle had two saves on the half before allowing a goal in the 88th minute off a penalty kick by Maggie Curran that put Navy up 2-0.

The Eagles had 12 shots on the day, four of which came from senior Jana Lee. Sophomore Katelynn Donovan and freshman Kelly McLaughlin had two shots apiece, each having one shot on goal.

American's record falls to 0-1 in the Patriot League and 6-4-1 overall.

The Eagles look to even their PL record with a win when they travel to Worcester, Mass., this weekend to take on Holy Cross on Friday at 7 p.m.
