Washington College of Law students are giving back to the community by helping students at nearby Woodrow Wilson High School with their college admissions essays until Nov. 9, according to a WCL press release.
"The college application is one of the most important factors in the college admissions process, and those who don't show well in the essay are often passed over for admission," states a press release about the program.
Members of WCL's Black Law Students' association "are committed to working with [students] to improve their college opportunities," according to the press release.
The essay portion allows students an opportunity to describe themselves, which is an important part of the process, wrote Kate Boyle, a college counselor on the Web site for Noble and Greenough School in Deedham, Mass.
"Kids feel like there's so little that they can actually control in the [admissions] process," Boyle wrote. "The essay is the one piece that they have absolute control over in terms of what they write about and how they write about it"
