Cross country competes at NCAA Regionals

The AU men's cross country team earned an automatic NCAA Championship berth with a second-place finish at Saturday's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, marking the team's third consecutive trip to the national tournament.

The Eagles scored 79 points, good enough for second place behind champion Georgetown.

Junior Steve Hallinan and senior Brendan Fennell grabbed sixth and eighth place, respectively, to help boost the Eagles. Grad student Conor Lanz finished 15th, while teammates Awit Yohannes, Dan Beardslee and Carlos Jamieson finished 23rd, 32nd and 34th, respectively.

The women's team finished 18th, led by junior Cathleen Ford and freshman Greta Wicklund, who both finished in the top 100.

The men's team next competes at the NCAA Championship next Tuesday in Terre Haute, Ind.

"Yell Like Hell" Pep Rally

AU Blue Crew is sponsoring the "Yell Like Hell" pep rally tonight in Bender Arena from 6:30-8 p.m. Celebrate the kickoff to the men's and women's basketball seasons with free food and a contest judged by men's coach Jeff Jones and The Eagle's own Patrick Ambrosio. Teams will compete for a $300 prize to see who can show the most AU spirit.
