Students selected to attend "Young People For" conference

Three AU students were recently picked as fellows to attend the upcoming "Young People For" conference, according to a Young People For press release.

Young People For "provides a national infrastructure to support young leaders' ongoing activism on the frontlines and facilitates connections to leaders and organizations in the progressive movement," according to the press release.

The three students picked - Angela Nagy, Anthony Flynn and Christine Hooyman - will attend the third annual national conference, Jan. 11 to 15 in Washington.

The 2007 fellowship class of 180 includes members from 60 colleges, according to the Young People For Web site.

At the conference, "fellows will gather ... to share ideas, learn organizing skills and hear from national progressive movements," according to the press release.

After the conference, the fellows will "return to their communities equipped with new skills and information, as well as self-designated blueprints for social justice that will be implemented over the course of the next year," according to the press release.

AU center to host panel on 110th Congress

AU's Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies will host an event to discuss what the new Congress should focus on, according to an AU press release.

The event, titled "Congressional Leadership Summit: Advice for the 110th Congress," will feature numerous political experts.

The keynote speaker will be Thomas Mann, a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institute and co-author of "The Broken Branch: How Congress is Failing America and How to Get it Back on Track."

This gathering will be bipartisan and will "analyze and discuss how the executive and legislative branches should work together to set and follow a successful legislative agenda," according to the press release.

Besides the keynote address, there will be two panels. Panelists include former congressmen and former congressional advisors.

The event will be hosted in the Murrow Room at the National Press Club from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 7.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
