Track competes at Navy Invite
The American University men's track team competed in the Navy Invitational this past Saturday, earning seven top-five finishes.
The Eagles ran away with the top spot in two races, as junior Steven Hallinan took first in the 1,000 meter and senior Awit Yohannes reigned victorious in the 3,000. Senior Alex Cuadana cruised in behind Hallinan to take second place behind his teammate.
Senior captain Dustin Emrani came in third in the 800, while junior Brian McCabe and senior Brendan Fennell picked up respective second- and fourth-place finishes in the men's mile.
The Eagles' other top finish came when sophomore Carlos Jamieson took second in the 5,000.
American will next compete at the Maryland Invitational in Landover, Md., this Saturday.
Swimming glides at FIU Invite
The AU men's and women's swimming and diving teams made a strong showing at the Florida International University Invitational on Jan. 6, placing in the top five in five events, with both teams finishing fifth overall.
The men's freestyle team had the Eagles' highest placing of the meet, taking second in the 200 freestyle relay with impressive performances by juniors Chris Leggett, Matt Bank, Joe Coronato and freshman Matt Pelletier.
The Eagles also earned two third-place finishes, in the women's 200 breastroke and the men's 400 freestyle.
The women's 500 freestyle team took fourth and the men's 200 backstroke team grabbed a fifth-place finish.
The Eagles will host Howard this Friday, when they celebrate senior day for their final home meet of the season.
