Since the Princeton Review ranked the AU library one of the worst in the nation a few years ago, the library staff has offered several new programs to improve services offered by the library. One of the most valuable is library walk-in classes.
In the 2005-2006 school year, 533 students attended 92 events. The classes last from 30 minutes to an hour, and library staff choose topics based on frequent student requests.
Although the classes are particularly useful for freshmen, who may feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar library resources, all students can benefit from the classes. Student tuition money is used to pay for the resources, so students might as well learn how to use them.
The library might be tight on space and might not have the best resources in the country, but librarians are always willing to help, and Bender should get more credit than it usually does. And if Bender Library fails, the Library of Congress is just a 30-minute Metro ride away.
