GW Presidential Search Timeline

April 4, 2006 George Washington University President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg announces he will retire at the end of July 2007 after 19 years in office.

Late April The board of trustees conducts a series of town hall meetings with parents, alumni, staff, students and Foggy Bottom residents during the following months to gain additional input in the search process.

Mid-July The GWU Presidential Search Committee hires D.C.-based Academic Search Consultation Services to aid them in conducting the presidential search process.

September The GWU Presidential Search Committee officially launches the search process. The Committee also launches an official search Web site, presidentialsearch.gwu.edu.

Mid-October Academic Search Consultation Services announces it received nominations for 102 possible presidential candidates.

Dec. 1 The GWU board of trustees unanimously confirms Johns Hopkins University Provost Steven Knapp as the university's 16th president.

Aug. 1, 2007 Steven Knapp will be inaugurated as GWU's 16th president.
