The uproar over NCOR is quite interesting. American University likes to pride itself on ideas of diversity, a word that immediately evokes passionate responses. In order to make it a reality, the collective student body must be open to not only difference but discomfort.
Our level of acceptance and openness is apparently only a mask made up of appropriate buzzwords, as there is a move to shut out ideas steaming from the "stinky" and "hippie" sorts. If differing ideas are what scare these students, think how scary people of tangible difference must be.
Anyone still wonder why there are complaints over "true" diversity on campus? Continue with NCOR because it is fun to shake up the privileged.
