A community-supported agriculture program that brings organic fruits and vegetables to campus from local farmers will begin its second year at AU, according to American Weekly.
Students and faculty members can pay $485 to be shareholders, which will allow them to receive 20 weeks of fresh produce and herbs from a farm in West Virginia owned by Allan Balliett, American Weekly reported.
"Virtually everything we deliver to AU will have been harvested that very morning, so it's fresh," Balliett told American Weekly.
Over the five months the program will take place, participants can sample more than 150 different types of produce, American Weekly reported. Additionally, all participants will get recipes and information about storing produce.
"Participating in the program made me feel like we were choosing to help our community and it inspired us to cook and eat better at home because of the amount of veggies that were always in our fridge," Sara Goode, senior assistant director of On-Campus Events, who helps organize the exchange, told American Weekly.
According to American Weekly, around 40 students and faculty members participated last year.
