AU senior dies at family home

Funeral to be held today

Ivy Zola, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, died Friday night in Potomac, Md., according to an e-mail Vice President of Campus Life Gail Hanson sent to AU staff.

Zola, 22, died in her family's home on the 9400 block of Lost Trail Way, according to the e-mail. The Eagle was not able to determine the cause of her death as of Tuesday morning.

Zola's friends have created an open memorial Facebook group called "In Remembrance of Ivy Jane Zola."

Zola's funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Washington Hebrew Congregation, which is located at 3935 Macomb St. N.W.

Following the funeral, Zola's family will observe a period of shiva - the traditional Jewish period of mourning - at their home. They will observe shiva today at 8 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Members of the AU community will also be able to remember and celebrate Zola's life at the university's Shabbat services at 6 p.m. Friday in Kay Spiritual Life Center, according to the e-mail.
