In a match against Howard University Tuesday night, the women's volleyball team lived up to its coach's expectations of "attacking early" and continuing its flawless record. Winning the match 3-0, the team served aggressively and managed to execute perfect plays.
In game one, the Eagles went out strong and took charge of the court, tallying 11 kills and zero errors on 27 attack attempts. There was no slowing the team down after its 30-10 win. The Eagles would continue to prove they were just as determined in game two.
The Eagles managed to add 11 more kills to the record book, and sophomore Julie Borecka's first career ace, finishing game two with a final score of 30-20.
Winning the first two games, the Eagles went into the third game just as powerful and finished just as victorious. Sophomore Claire Recht, #14, dominated the court with outstanding blocks, prompting the crowd, primarily made up of AU's Blue Crew, to chant "You got Rechted" several times throughout the match.
Claire and Ann Recht, sisters and teammates, are "not just a set of twins," Coach Barry Goldberg said.
"They are great students, top of their class academically and compete great," Goldberg said.
This determination is a shared quality among the women on the team. After a record-breaking game on Saturday night, senior Tara Stradling, # 9, once again aided in the team's victory. Referred to as a "steady player," by her coach, Stradling shared time setting with teammate Christina Nash, #11.
Alongside Stradling and Nash, teammate Angelina Waterman, #20, also made her mark with several kills throughout the match.
It is obvious that the Eagles are striving for success this season. Just days earlier, the stands were filled with over a 1,000 fans as the Eagles took on George Washington University. As the game against the Colonials began, the stage was clearly set for a record-breaking match. The 3-2 victory against GWU, along with the victory against Howard, leads the team to a flawless record thus far.
