Bin Laden releases new tape

Osama Bin Laden has invited Americans to "embrace Islam" as a means to prevent further attacks, in a video released days before the sixth year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The al-Qaeda leader also mocked President Bush, comparing him to "one who plows and sows the sea: he harvests nothing but failure," according to The Associated Press. Bin Laden lectured on global warming, the evils of capitalism and the sub-prime mortgage crisis in the United States, the AP reported.

Louis Caprioli of the risk management firm Geos and former head of the French intelligence agency's anti-terrorism unit told the AP that this passive method is an attempt to appear as a world leader rather than a terrorist leader.

"He wants to change his role, to be a leader who speaks to other leaders, and to cast himself as a champion of the oppressed," Caprioli said.
