Sports brief: men's cross country still runs strong

The women's and men's AU cross country teams finished strong at the Navy Invitational 8K race Saturday. The men finished in fourth place, and the women finished in fifth place.

On the men's team, standout runners included senior Steve Hallinan and junior Carlos Jamieson. Hallinan completed the course in 24:05.00, the 12th fastest time in course history. His time placed him fourth out of the pack of runners. Jamieson also finished in the top 10 after he ran the 8K in 24:25.80.

For the women's team, the best runner brought back a seventh-place finish. Senior Cathleen Ford was American's top runner, completing the 6K course with a time of 22:41.00. Senior Kate Lilley and sophomore Greta Wicklund were also notable finishers for the Eagles. Lilley placed 13th with a time of 23:03.00, while teammate Wicklund finished 22nd with a time of 23:37.00.

The AU cross country teams' next competition happens Saturday at the Iona College Meet of Champions.
