China bans underwear, 'sexually suggestive' ads

China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television banned all radio and television commercials featuring sexually suggestive language and behavior or featuring scantily clad women, according Chinadaily.com, China's only English-language press agency.

Stations are prohibited from broadcasting commercials and programs featuring "vulgar" ads for female underwear, breast enhancement, sex toys, sex-related health supplements, drugs for sexually transmitted diseases and even ads featuring celebrities testifying for products, Chinadaily.com reported.

"Sexually suggestive ads and bad ads not only mislead consumers seriously and harm public health, but are socially corrupting and morally depraving and directly discredit the radio and TV industry," the SARFT said in a statement according to Chinadaily.com.

Since Aug. 1, 466 ads worth almost $267 million have been removed, according to SARFT statistics.

Ten radio stations have been punished for talk shows involving sexual topics since Sept. 5, Chinadaily.com reported.
