Aspiring horror writer may have eaten girlfriend

A Mexican man working on a novel titled "Cannibal Instincts" was arrested last week after a police raid found body parts in his home. Authorities this week confirmed the body parts were his girlfriend's remains, according to United Press International and El Universal, a Mexican newspaper.

Police said Alejandra Galeana Garabito died after being strangled and beaten over the head, allegedly by her partner, Jose Luis Calva Zepeda, El Universal reported. During the raid on the couple's Mexico City apartment, parts of Galeana Garabito's body were found in a frying pan and on a plate with a piece of lemon, police told El Universal.

Authorities said there was only a strong "presumption" that Calva Zepeda ate his girlfriend's remains, but that he would likely be convicted of first-degree murder with a maximum penalty of 50 years because of the evidence, El Universal reported.

Authorities are investigating the possibility of other murders committed by Calva Zepeda, who they said is a cocaine and alcohol abuser with a history of depression, El Universal reported.
