Men's soccer falls to Holy Cross in overtime

In a battle between two unbeaten Patriot League teams, the men's soccer team lost a hard-fought match 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at Holy Cross.

After a scoreless first half in which both teams fired a combined six shots on net, each team scored twice in the span of eight minutes in the second half.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal in the 57th minute by freshman Mike Worden. Junior Anthony Moy scored two minutes later in the 59th minute. Worden scored his second goal of the season on a shot that bounced off the crossbar and crossed the goal line. Moy's unassisted goal on an open net was his first this season.

However, Holy Cross quickly tied the score. The Crusaders first scored on a penalty kick by Alejandro Melean, followed by a goal in the 65th minute by Kyle Miller to force overtime. The Crusaders completed the comeback six minutes into overtime as Miller scored again off a cross. The Crusaders also tallied assists from Jon Werth and Marsalis Beckford.

The Eagle defeat was their first loss in the Patriot League, dropping their Patriot League record to 3-1-1 and 6-8-2 overall. AU now holds 10 points in the Patriot League standings, compared to Colgate in first with 13 points and Holy Cross in second with 11 points.

The Eagles' next match is next Sunday at home. First place will be on the line as AU celebrates Senior Day and takes on Colgate.
