A man was arrested on murder charges last week after police say they found his cell phone near the scene of a fatal shooting in Charles County in Southern Maryland, The Washington Post reported.
Authorities believe on the evening of Oct. 3, James F. Swann, 32, and William Nathaniel Coates, 29, shot Joseph G. Hickman, 71, and fled, only to be pulled over a short time after by police, who took custody of their car, the Post reported.
Police believe Swann had an ongoing dispute with an uninjured man Hickman was speaking with in front of his townhouse at the time of the shooting, according to SoMdNews.com, an online newspaper covering Southern Maryland news.
Swann's cell phone was found on the front yard of a nearby residence, adding to a list of evidence against him that includes his fingerprints on a box of .45-caliber ammunition, the same type of ammunition used to kill Hickman, found in a nearby wooded area and a witness who earlier saw Swann get into the same car police took into custody, according to SoMdNews.com and the Post.
