jailed shoplifter's 'drugs' are crystallized cat urine

A Florida woman was released from jail last week after lab tests revealed a substance in her handbag was crystallized cat urine and not drugs, according to United Press International.

Police found what appeared to be a vial of methamphetamines in Cynthia Hunter's purse after she was arrested almost two months ago for shoplifting outside Tampa, according to UPI.

Along with shoplifting, Hunter was charged with possession of a controlled substance, according to CBS 4, a South Florida media station.

She claimed she bought the crystals at a veterinary clinic for her son's science project, according to UPI.

Hunter pleaded guilty last week to petty theft, but a judge declared time served, which means the time she spent in jail awaiting trial would be applied to any sentence she received, CBS 4 reported.
