The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Resource Center is holding its final Safe Space Sticker program for 2007 Nov. 29 from 2 to 5 p.m.
The Safe Space Sticker program is meant to help create a safer and more inclusive campus environment for all members of the AU community, according to information on AU's Web site.
Using Safe Space stickers and a training program, the GLBTA Resource Center hopes participants will create a supportive network of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and ally members at AU who will provide support and information for each other, according to the Web site.
Program participants agree to inform themselves on the issues facing the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and to take a stance against all forms of discrimination, according to the Web site.
"The Safe Space Program represents a commitment by American University to the value of cultural diversity and responding to the needs of all its students, faculty and staff," Sara Bendoraitis, director of the GLBTA Resource Center, said in an e-mail. "The Safe Space sticker provides a visible presence of individuals who are willing to provide a safe haven, a listening ear and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people or anyone dealing with sexual orientation issues."
