Alyph Limited gave School of International Service professor Akbar Ahmed a $25,000 check Wednesday to benefit the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies in SIS.
Izzat Majeed, chief executive of the investment company, which is based in the United Kingdom, gave the check to Ahmed, the current Ibn Khaldun chair.
The role of the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies is to teach AU students and other individuals about the importance of interfaith dialogue through outreach initiatives, according to Ahmed.
Ahmed said he will be able to hire additional assistants with the money.
"Nothing is more important than trying to create a true understanding of Islam," Ahmed said. "We are grateful to anyone who helps us promote understanding."
