The AU College Republicans are deeply disturbed by the collective slander our organization received from Mr. Dobbyn in an Oct. 29 "letter to the editor."
The way in which Mr. Dobbyn characterizes the article outlining our fundraising is false. We have made our case that the funding allocation is a broken system, which, by the admission of the AUCC chairwoman, has based previous allocations on a biased "gut feeling". Rather than complain, the AUCRs have reached outward to assert itself financially. If anyone is whining, it is Mr. Dobbyn and the far left he represents.
Clearly, he is discouraged that the left of this campus, in spite of their numbers, have been out-fundraised, out-programmed and outdone by any objective standard of quality this year. Mr. Dobbyn, the AUCRs believe that, like in the grown-up world, organizations should be judged by their results. Quality is preferred to quantity. In fundraising nearly $1,000 more than our allocation, bringing Ron Paul, Tom DeLay, Ed Meese, Peter King and others to campus and expanding our membership, we have demonstrated to not be the "errant fools" Mr. Dobbyn alleges.
We suggest Mr. Dobbyn turn his questions of the use of student funds to the AU College Democrats and other liberal groups on campus who have been given thousands of dollars and have yet to produce results with it. The numerical majority of liberals Mr. Dobbyn references only add to the disappointment that such a muted campus presence brings.
As a club, we invite Mr. Dobbyn and his colleagues to refrain from using their energies toward mean-spirited, semi-racist comments. Rather, we hope they are put toward having great events that their members can be proud of, ones that help expand the marketplace of ideas we believe makes AU the place where political activism should thrive.
