D.C. residents mourn death of Redskins' Sean Taylor

Hundreds gathered at the Redskins' headquarters in Ashburn, Va., Tuesday to mourn team member Sean Taylor, who died one day after being shot at his home in Palmetto Bay, Fla.

Fans formed a circle Tuesday evening around Taylor's number, 21, painted on a grassy area in front of Redskins Park, Fox 5 News reported. A makeshift memorial of flowers, cards and candles were laid earlier that day by fans. Some paid their respects at his parking space.

"Sean was a dear friend to all of us," Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell said in a statement posted on the team's Web site. "We're all like a family, and it's like we lost a family member."

For others, the sudden act of violence that killed Taylor was too familiar in the District.

"You hear the story and it reminds you we live in a city where over 6,000 people have been killed in the past 20 years, and most of [the victims] looked like Sean Taylor," David Bowers, who runs No Murders D.C., told the Post. No Murders D.C. is an organization seeking to end the high murder rate in the District.
