SG brief

Senate allocates extra $42,250

The Undergraduate Senate passed a bill allocating an extra $42,250 from the SG-restricted fund.

The bill allocates $20,000 to the Kennedy Political Union for a speaker for Women's History Month and end-of-the-year events; $4,500 to AUTO for computer upgrades; $4,108 to SUB to pay for the cost of closing the Tavern during the Ghostface Killah show; $3,500 to the SG general fund for the bike program; $3,500 to the vice president's office for additional programming for Spring Fling; and additional allocations to those offices and Women's Initiative.

It is important to allocate the money as soon as possible so it can be used most effectively, said the bill's sponsor, Georgette Spanjich, Class of 2010 senator.

Senators debated using the money for another project instead of programming.

SG regulations mandate $25,000 stay in the fund for emergency purposes.

The Senate passed the bill, "A Bill to Reallocate Funds in SG Restricted," by a vote of 19 in favor, one against and one abstention.

The Undergraduate Senate meets every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Kogod 118.
