Podcasts produced weekly by School of Communication professor Rick Rockwell's "Broadcast Journalism I" class can now be found on iTunes.
The class produces a newscast every Wednesday and has aired six since producing its first one on Oct. 24.
"This is the real thing," Rockwell said. "The news needs to be as good as anything you would usually hear."
Almost every podcast has drawn in 1,000 listeners, 90 percent of whom are from outside AU.
"We have listeners on literally every continent ever since we reached Egypt last week," Rockwell said.
The podcasts were Rockwell's attempt at making the class more engaging for students and to keep up with the latest teaching trends.
"It was a bit of a brainstorm," he said. "There's been more emphasis on getting students' work noticed, and there's no better way than the Internet."
