Campus brief

Student-only AA meetings begin

Students struggling with alcoholism can turn to the new student-only Alcoholics Anonymous meetings starting in February.

Though AA was on campus before, Wellness Center health educator Laura Kovach said they sought to create a place where students feel comfortable.

"We just wanted to create a safe place for only students to come and get the extra help they need," Kovach said.

This particular AA group will be different from others because it will focus on group readings and participation. Judicial Affairs and Mediation Services often sends students to AA meetings for alcohol policy violations.

Though students sent to AA meetings may choose to attend the new on-campus group, Kovach said many may not want to because rather than just listening, students will be encouraged to participate.

For any interested students, the first meeting will be held on Feb. 4 in MGC 205 at 5:30 p.m.
