Dorm Recipe: Versatile and tasty veggie dip

Veggie Dip

I often like to snack on vegetables or chips with an appetizing dip. However, I have never been a fan of the ready-made dips you can buy in the grocery store because they are expensive and taste very processed. I find that when you combine sour cream and mayonnaise, it creates a great base for any dip. These dips are enormously versatile.

Adding Dijon mustard and some spices makes it the perfect complement to chips and any vegetable. If you don't like Dijon mustard, try regular yellow mustard or any kind of sweet mustard. Adding freshly chopped parsley will also give it a fresh taste. Adding cayenne or red pepper to a mayo-based dip can add a little pep, too. Try adding your own favorite combination of spices to see what works best. For a special Valentine's Day dinner with that special someone, top a steak or chicken breast (or roasted veggies, for our vegetarian friends) with your favorite version of this classic dip to add a touch of class. Even if you're going out to dinner later, this dip can be dressed up for an hors d'oeuvres to die for. Impress your mate, dear readers.

For more casual fare, you can also use this veggie dip as a condiment on sandwiches. When regular old mustard becomes a tired choice, go for this more adventurous, yet simple option.

And of course, dip can be used the way God intended: with chips. Bring it along as a side the next time you go over to a friend's place to watch a movie or a game - they are sure to fall in love with it. Guten Appetit!
