English police turn down burglar's request for arrest

Police in northern England allowed a burglar to continue his crime spree after he called their station and asked to be picked up, the Daily Mail reported Monday.

Liam Tomlinson, 21, allegedly told police in a phone call Dec. 8 that he had broken into the clubhouse of Rossendale United FC, an English soccer team, and stolen three bottles of alcohol, according to the Daily Mail.

The police informed Tomlinson that they had no available patrol cars to come pick him up, and that he would have to wait. Instead, the impatient Tomlinson proceeded to cause $5,000 worth of damage at the Waterfoot Conservative Club in Lancashire before police apprehended him two hours later, the Daily Mail reported.

An English court granted Tomlinson bail but quickly regretted the decision after he was arrested again for burglary shortly thereafter. The court finally sentenced Tomlinson to eight months in jail this week, according to the Daily Mail.
