The week in fun: Know your city

Thursday, Feb. 7 Flamenco Dance on Stage: Starring You 7 and 9 p.m. WHERE: George Washington University - Lisner Auditorium 730 21st St. N.W. METRO: Foggy Bottom (blue and orange lines) INFO: Learn how to dance the sassy flamenco with the first class of the night for beginners and the second for those with a little bit more experience. The cost of admission includes a reception with wine and cheese before class. The teachers also recommend wearing nonrubber soled shoes. COST: $20

Sex Workers' Art Show 8 p.m. WHERE: Rock and Roll Hotel 1353 H St. N.E. METRO: New York Avenue/Florida Avenue (red line) INFO: This showcase of visual and performance art from area sex workers will donate its proceeds to the local charity Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive. Created in 1993 by community members and police officers, HIPS works to protect prostitutes from violence, drug use, STIs and poverty. COST: $15

Friday, Feb. 8 BLACK CATatonia 10 p.m. WHERE: Black Cat 1811 14th St. N.W. METRO: U Street/Cardozo (green and yellow lines) INFO: As temperatures rise, it's hard to resist a free dance party. Features DJ DK, who uses old-school turntable technique to mix '80s, hip-hop, funk and electronica. COST: Free

"4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" Various showtimes WHERE: E Street Cinema 555 11th St. N.W. METRO: Metro Center (red line) INFO: This Palm D'Or winner at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival tells the terrifying tale of a Romanian college student arranging an illegal abortion for her roommate under a brutal and oppressive government. COST: $7.75

Saturday, Feb. 9 Barry Manilow 9 p.m. WHERE: Verizon Center 601 F St. N.W. METRO: Chinatown/Gallery Place (red, yellow and green lines) INFO: The punch line of all "guess who just called and wants his wardrobe back" jokes performs songs from his newest release, "The Greatest Songs of the Seventies." It will be fun for Fanilows of all ages. COST: $9.99-$250

Molotov 9 p.m. WHERE: 9:30 club 815 V St. N.W. METRO: U Street/Cardozo (green and yellow lines) INFO: The rap-rock band from Mexico City will bring its energetic rhythm to this D.C. music hot spot. COST: $25

Sunday, Feb. 10 Argonaut ika 2 p.m. WHERE: Shakespeare Theatre Company, Lansburgh Theatre 450 Seventh St. N.W. METRO: Chinatown/Gallery Place (red, yellow and green lines) INFO: Through the Greek myth of Jason and the Argonaut's search for the Golden Fleece, this play meditates on loss and love. COST: $57.75-$74.75

Bright Future 2 p.m. WHERE: Freer Gallery, Meyer Auditorium Jefferson Avenue and 12th Street S.W. METRO: Smithsonian (orange and blue lines) INFO: Part of "The Rebel, Artist, Superstar: The Films of Tadanobu Asana" series, this horror movie showcases the featured director's ability to build dread from the ordinary. COST: Free, but pick up tickets before the showing

Monday, Feb. 11

Ebina Performing Arts 6 p.m. WHERE: The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Millennium Stage 2700 F St. N.W. METRO: Foggy Bottom (orange and blue lines) INFO: Hip-hop, mime and jazz combine to create a stunning and electric dance performance from Kenichi Ebina. COST: Free

RECOGNIZE! Hip Hop and Contemporary Portraiture 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. WHERE: National Portrait Gallery Eighth and F streets N.W. METRO: Chinatown/Gallery Place (red, yellow and green lines) INFO: Artists explore the pervasiveness of hip-hop and the way the music intersects with art. Two area graffiti artists also collaborated on four murals to connect the exhibit's rooms. COST: Free

Tuesday, Feb. 12 "A Thousand Roads" 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. WHERE: National Museum of the American Indian, Rasmuson Theater Fourth Street and Independence Avenue S.W. METRO: Smithsonian (orange and blue lines) INFO: This film traces the lives of four American Indians living in New York City, Alaska, Peru and New Mexico to show the complexity of modern native life. Make sure and get some delicious Fry Bread from the museum cafeteria after the show. COST: Free

Love Poems Noon WHERE: Library of Congress 101 Independence Ave. S.E. METRO: Capitol South (orange and blue lines) INFO: Take a breather from your internship downtown to hear some love poetry and get in the romantic mood for Valentine's Day, with readings from E. Ethelbert Miller, Sally Bliumis-Dunn and Benjamin Morris. COST: Free
