Underclassmen run away from the pack at invite

Freshmen gain top 10 finishes

Nine members of the AU track team competed at the Thomson Invitational at the University of Delaware on Saturday, taking home five top 10 finishes in the process.

Junior Brendan Laks was the sole winner of the day, taking home first place in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:16.61. Laks was one of eight runners from the men's squad to take part in the invite. Freshmen teammates Jeff Brannigan and Nick Ryan took second and third in the mile, with times of 4:24.16 and 4:25.39, respectively.

Rounding out the Eagles, who finished in the top 10, freshman Jeremiah Headen and sophomore Dan King took eighth and 10th in the 500-meter dash with times of 1:09.55 and 1.09.68, respectively.

The lone female athlete representing AU was freshman Mary Jane Egan. Egan placed sixth in the 800-meter race, crossing the line in 2:25.55.

The Eagles have one final regular season meet before the Patriot League Championships begin on Feb. 22. Both squads will head to New York to take part in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational Friday and Saturday.
