Glenn, Cannon earn all-American honors

Wrestling team finishes season at NCAA tourney

Senior Josh Glenn and sophomore Mike Cannon earned all-American status due to their respective fifth and sixth place finishes in the NCAA National Wrestling championships held over the weekend.

Glenn, the defending national champion in the 197-lb. weight class, saw his bid for back-to-back titles end when he lost in the semifinals to University of Maryland's Hudson Taylor 9-6. He was able to capture fifth place overall by taking down the University of Wisconsin's Dallas Herbst in the fifth/sixth place match 11-6.

This was the final match in Glenn's AU career after finishing as a national champion and three-time all-American, the first time an AU wrestler has earned national honors three years in a row.

Cannon saw his bid to join Glenn as an AU national champion fail after he lost to Mack Lewnes from Cornell by pin. Cannon was able to come back through the wrestle-back bracket and compete in the fifth/sixth place match, but he was unable to come out on top, losing 13-6 to Moza Fay of Northern Iowa.

Despite the loss, Cannon became only the fifth AU wrestler to be named an all-American in the program's history.

As a team, the Eagles finished in 23rd place with a team score of 22 points, 95 points behind national champion University of Iowa. This was the third consecutive year the team finished in the top 25 in the nation.
