The women's lacrosse team tallied another loss Saturday, coming up short to Stony Brook 14-12.
From the start, it looked as though the Eagles were the stronger of the two teams. Coming onto the field, Eagle senior midfielder Brittany Finnegan scored within the first two minutes of the game. However, it wouldn't take long for the Seawolves to bite back.
With barely enough time to record AU's goal on the board, Stony Brook struck, scoring three goals within three minutes of play to bring the Eagles to a two-point deficit at 3-1.
The half played on like a game of tug-of-war - the Seawolves would score one, and the Eagles would soon follow. Stony Brook looked to be stronger, however, taking a one-point advantage at the halfway mark, bringing the score to 6-5.
The Seawolves got on the scoreboard first to start the second half. Senior attacker Lauren Aksionoff soon answered, though, completing her hat trick to take the score to 7-6.
The game continued to play out as a neck-and-neck battle. It wasn't until 18 minutes remained on the clock that Stony Brook really took off with control of the game. Seawolf Diana Caroleo scored her fourth goal of the game, bringing the tally to 10-7.
It was Stony Brook's game from that point on. The Seawolves continued to score the next four goals to put 14 points on the scoreboard. AU tried to regain the lead. Seniors Finnegan and Jackie Lane and freshman Brit s attempted to bring the score back in favor of the Eagles. However, these attempts would prove to be fruitless. As the final buzzer sounded the score read 14-12.
The Eagles are now 5-6 and will look to improve their record on Tuesday when they face off on the road against Navy.
