The only disappointing part of the Eagles' 52-46 win over Colgate was that most of us were home for spring break when it happened. Men's basketball has injected this campus with a much-needed dose of excitement; one we can only hope persists long after this year's NCAA tournament ends.
Unfortunately, we can't predict the outcome of Friday's game against Tennessee, as much as our personal tournament brackets could use such foresight. But we can say this: The relatively young Eagles made AU history this year, and regardless of how they do in Alabama, many of them should stick around for another year. If that returning team keeps playing with such vigor - and students sustain this unparalleled sense of school pride and enthusiasm - we can rightfully expect better student attendance at games and a more athletics-friendly campus environment. The Eagles' debut tournament experience elevates AU Athletics' reputation and AU's popularity far past the edges of our own university.
So, we wish The Eagles a great deal of luck this Friday, and we implore AU students to welcome them home with the same support they exhibited during yesterday afternoon's send-off. We couldn't be more excited for anything so effective at unifying this often-fractured campus.
