District Heights mayor arrested

D.C. police arrested the mayor of the District Heights, Md., Thursday, claiming he solicited a male prostitute according to the Washington Post.

Mayor James L. Walls, who is also an associate minister at the Forestville New Redeemer Baptist Church, attempted to pick up an undercover Metropolitan Police Department officer near the Verizon Center around 12:30 a.m., police told the Post.

Walls could face a six-month jail sentence and a $1,000 fine said the Post.

"He's not a happy camper," District Heights Vice Mayor Eddie L. Martin told The Washington Examiner.

Officers routinely conduct sting operations around the area where they arrested Walls. They make as many as 14 arrests per night, Inspector Brian Bray, head of the narcotics and special investigations unit told the Post.

Walls became a political star after he became the youngest elected mayor in the area in 2006, according to The Post.
