Police blotter

Wednesday, April 2

A resident assistant in Leonard Hall reported two roommates were engaged in a verbal altercation. Public Safety officers and the resident director on duty responded. Housing and Dining placed one of the students in temporary housing until further notice and will continue to handle the situation.

A desk receptionist in Hughes Hall reported a student was lying in the hallway. The student appeared to be intoxicated and unresponsive. The D.C. Fire Department and the RD on duty responded to the incident. The student became alert but was still incoherent when they responded. DCFD transported the student to Sibley Hospital.

A staff member at the Jacobs Fitness Center reported catching someone going through his locker. The suspect had the staff member's credit cards in his hands at the time. The suspect claimed to be homeless and in need of money, then returned the credit cards and left the area. Public Safety officers responded but did not find anything.

A student reported being stuck in an elevator in Letts Hall. DCFD and Facilities Management responded and released the student with no injuries. Facilities Management placed the elevator out of service.

A prospective student called to report that an AU student who befriended her on Facebook was making her feel uncomfortable in an instant message conversation. The suspect's comments were sexual in nature. She asked the suspect to stop and she blocked him. Public Safety asked the prospective student to notify her parents of the situation and to file criminal charges with her local police department.

Friday, April 4

A Public Safety aide reported two vehicles in the Nebraska Parking Lot seemed to have fake parking permits displayed in their windows. A Public Safety officer and the parking and traffic supervisor responded. Officers took photographs of the vehicles and Judicial Affairs and Mediation Services will handle the incident.

An AU employee reported that the doors of the breezeway between Leonard and McDowell Halls were open. These doors are supposed to be closed and secure at all times. Officers took photographs of the doors. They notified Facilities Management and generated a report.

An AU employee reported a high school student who was on a field trip injured the left pinky finger after falling. The high school's vice principal responded. DCFD transported the student to Sibley.

Saturday, April 5

Four individuals called from an elevator that was stuck on the sixth floor of Letts. Public Safety officers and Facilities Management reset the elevator and released the students on another floor. Facilities Management shut down the power to the elevator and placed an "out of order" sign on the elevator door.

An RD reported a male student drinking beer in the Letts-Anderson Quad. The student was uncooperative and would not give his residence or AU identification until Public Safety arrived and requested his information. The student said he drank off campus and brought the beer back with him. Officers confiscated the beer and sent the student back to his room. JAMS will file charges.

An RA in Anderson Hall reported an intoxicated female student who appeared conscious but incoherent. DCFD responded and transported the student to Georgetown University Hospital.

The manager of Tenley Café reported that someone stole a waffle iron from the serving area overnight.

A campus resident reported that she had been sexually assaulted and possibly drugged at an off-campus location. The victim, friends and residence hall personnel responded to Public Safety. Public Safety conducted interviews at the Public Safety office and escorted the victim and two possible witnesses to the Metropolitan Police Department to meet with a sex crimes detective.

A visitor informed a staff member at the Katzen Arts Center that there was a popping sound coming from a skylight windowpane on the third floor of the art gallery. Staff investigated and found that a skylight pane was shattered. Five small rocks within the shattered glass appeared to have caused the damage. Facilities Management closed the area. Staff secured the area with caution tape and closed the third floor.

An RA on duty in Anderson Hall reported vandalism in a student's room. The student's door showed signs of forced entry, and shaving cream covered all of his belongings. 2Fix was not able to fix the door and issued a high-priority work order. The victim declined to be placed in a different room until the door was fixed. Public Safety photographed the damage. There were no witnesses to the incident.

Tuesday, April 8

A Student Health Center staff member reported an unknown individual tried to use a student's information to gain health care. The suspect was unable to produce identification or additional information. The suspect presented an insurance card belonging to another individual and claimed he could not remember this Social Security number. The staff member advised him to report to Sibley.

A staff member from the Student Health Center reported a student having a possible allergic reaction to medication. The student was conscious and alert. DCFD transported the student to Sibley.

Two roommates in McDowell reported an unknown individual throwing red peppers at their window for two consecutive days around the same time. An official responded and observed residue on the outside of the window. Red and orange peppers were observed below the window. The RD on duty and the RD of McDowell were notified of the incidents.

Library staff reported an unknown person stole a library patron's iPod. The victim said she left books and a handbag on a desk and chair in the library for approximately five minutes. When she returned, she found the iPod missing from her handbag.
