Robert D. Hradsky will become the new assistant vice president of Campus Life and dean of students, AU announced in an e-mail to the campus Thursday.
Hradsky will take over the position from Faith Leonard after she retired this past summer, according to Gail Hanson, vice president of Campus Life.
Hradsky's was one of several candidates the search committee looked at over the summer in their search for a replacement. In the end, Hradsky stood out among the rest of the candidates that applied because of his strong background in the educational world, according to Hanson.
"He has worked in a variety of institutions and a variety of instructional settings," she said. "[Both of these things] have given him a very broad view of things happening in higher education in general."
According to Hanson, the assistant vice president of Campus Life position and the Dean of Students position have gone together, with one staff member filling both positions for almost eight years. Hanson said the combination of the two positions together as one shows that the staffer who assumes the position has a deep understanding of campus life and of students.
"[By putting the positions together] it recognizes this person has a number of depths in campus life," she said. "By the same token, they have an understanding of students."
Hradsky will take over the position on Oct. 20.
