ISSS department releases cookbooks

The International Student and Scholar Services office released a cookbook, "Tales of Taste: Family Recipes from Around the World," which includes recipes from around the world that various members of the AU community submitted.

Senem Bakar, assistant director of ISSS and creator of the cookbook, said she got the idea around Thanksgiving last year, when she overheard several students who work in the ISSS department talk about foods that they missed from home.

"Their conversation continued and suddenly I said, wait a minute, why don't we think about compiling a cookbook and putting all of mom's recipes from home in it," she said.

Bakar started sending e-mails to the AU community requesting they send her their favorite recipe from home to be published in the book.

"I brought [the idea of the cookbook] to the attention of the administrators and to the ISSS leadership team," she said. "I soon realized that people were becoming more receptive to the idea."

The cookbook's recipes are organized into regions. The cookbook can be purchased at the ISSS office on the fourth floor of Butler. There is a suggested donation price of $20. All proceeds from the book will go to the International Student Emergency Fund, a collection that will help international students going through an emergency.
