The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday it will pay the hotel expenses of nearly two million Hurricane Gustav evacuees in Baton Rouge, La., according to the Associated Press.
FEMA plans to pay the costs "to make sure that people don't feel economic pressure to return home prematurely, before it's safe," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told the AP Wednesday.
The agency is still uncertain who will receive assistance and how much the move w ill cost taxpayers.
