Thursday, Oct. 30 Doggy Happy Hour Howloween Costume Contest 5 p.m. WHERE: Hotel Monaco Alexandria, 480 King St., Alexandria, Va. METRO: King Street (blue and yellow lines) INFO: It's a pet and owner costume contest to celebrate Halloween and the last Doggy Happy Hour of the season. Proceeds go to benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Stop on down! Perhaps you could win this year's Political Pooch Award. COST: Free

Friday, Oct. 31 Pietasters 8 p.m. WHERE: 9:30 club, 815 V St. N.W. METRO: U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo (green and yellow lines) INFO: Don't have plans for Halloween? Even if you do, this is worth a shot. The Pietasters lead a ska party featuring The Toasters, Deals Gone Bad and The Ambitions at the 9:30 club Friday. Wear an amazing costume and you could win free tickets to the 9:30 club for the rest of the year! COST: $15

Saturday, Nov. 1 "Capitol Punishment" 6:30 p.m. WHERE: Kay Spiritual Life Center, basement METRO: Tenleytown-AU (red line) INFO: WVAU brings the pain for Halloween. Join Deutschmarks, Charades, Pree and Four Fins of the Rocket as they punish AU with pure rock 'n' roll. COST: Free

Sunday, Nov. 2 Blues and Swing Dance 7 p.m. WHERE: Bumper Car Pavilion, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, Md. METRO: Friendship Heights (red line) and take Route 29 Ride-on bus INFO: Deja Blue Blues Band plays some live tunes as they teach you to swing and bump old-style. Mike and Donna of DanceDC won't leave you standing there as classics by Muddy Waters and Little Walter fill the air. COST: $17

Monday, Nov. 3 The Who 8 p.m. WHERE: Verizon Center, 601 F St. N.W. METRO: Gallery Place-Chinatown (red, green and yellow lines) INFO: Fortunately, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey didn't die before they got old. Check out this Romanian puppet show fable about following your parent's advice. At this point in the semester, that could be a nice reminder. COST: Free
