D.C. banks receive powder-laced letters

D.C. branches of Chase banks reported receiving letters laced with suspicious white powder Tuesday.

More than 30 letters were reported across nine states, according to a report by the FBI. Initial tests proved negative for dangerous toxins, according to the report.

Letters were also sent to Chase banks in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Newark, N.J., New York and Columbus, Ohio.

The letters seem to be a backlash against the recent economic crisis, authorities told the Associated Press.

All of the letters were postmarked from a single location in Amarillo, Tex.

"Even sending a hoax letter is a serious crime," the FBI told the Associated Press.
