The College Board, which owns the SAT and PSAT, announced Wednesday they will debut a new high school assessment test in the fall.
The test is anticipated to better prepare eighth graders to face the challenges of high school and college-level courses, according to The New York Times.
The test will not in any way affect college admissions, but rather will strictly be used for assessment, College Board officials told The Times.
"This is not at all a pre-pre-pre SAT," Lee Jones, a College Board vice president, said at a news conference, according to The Times. "It's a diagnostic tool to provide information about students' strengths and weaknesses."
