Women's soccer falls to Princeton, 4-0

Eagles fail to score for seventh game

AU women's soccer team's struggles continued on Tuesday afternoon, as the squad lost to the Princeton University Tigers 4-0 at Reeves Field. It is the Eagles' seventh straight loss via shutout, which drops them to 3-9-2 on the season.

The Tigers came out of the gate with a red-hot offensive and never looked back. Senior midfielder Sarah Peteraf set the tone early for Princeton, scoring in the 13th minute after receiving the ball in the middle of the field and putting her shot past AU freshman goalkeeper Arianna Efstathiou to make it 1-0.

Less than 20 minutes later, Peteraf tallied her second goal of the game, taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Kayleigh Iatarola to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead as they entered halftime.

The Eagles never got going throughout the match, while the Tigers continued to add to their lead in the second half of play.

Freshman midfielder Barb Previ stole an AU defensive clearance, putting the ball in the back of the net in the 47th minute to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage.

Sophomore midfielder Lauren Whatley scored Princeton's fourth and final goal of the match in the 65th minute, taking a shot from the right side that slipped between Efstathiou's legs to put the Tigers up 4-0.

The Eagles' scoring drought has now reached seven consecutive games, with the team failing to find the back of the net for the past 712 minutes of play.

The Eagles will look to get back on track when they host Patriot League rival Lehigh University at 4 p.m. Friday.
