George Mason University will rename and redesign its mascot, Gunston, this season.
The fuzzy, green creature, a favorite among children, will be updated to a "sharper" model, The Washington Post reported.
The new, 240-pound mascot is seven feet tall and has a hat size of 29, will debut Monday at GMU's basketball game against Brown University.
Gunston, named for Founding Father George Mason's house, came under increased scrutiny in 2006 after GMU made it to the NCAA Final Four, according to the Post.
"It was kind of cute and all when we were just in the [Colonial Athletic Association] tournament and the NIT, but when you play with the big boys... it's like coming to the car show in a Hyundai," Michael McNutt, a GMU alumnus, told the Post.
A contest will be held to select a name for Gunston's replacement.
